Nike has joined hands with Japanese designer Tomo Koizumi, founder of the fashion brand TOMO KOIZUMI, to launch a bold new version of the Air Superfly. This limited-edition release combines the energy of sport with the dramatic flair of couture, creating a unique sneaker experience. The shoe will be released on September 20 exclusively at Dover Street Market Ginza.
Originally designed 25 years ago as a lightweight racing shoe, the Air Superfly was relaunched this spring as a lifestyle model. Koizumi has now reimagined it with influences from Japanese manga, high fashion, and the strength of elite female athletes. His design celebrates both powerful femininity and modern innovation.
The sneaker’s standout features include a lens-like upper and tongue logo that shift colors under different lighting, a multicolored outsole with green dots inspired by 2000s track spikes, and interchangeable Swoosh logos with Velcro straps. These Swooshes come in three versions, including a black ruffled style, while the shoe also offers multiple lace options for full customization. Inside, the TOMO KOIZUMI logo is printed on the sock liner, marking it as an artistic creation.
To highlight the shoe, Nike and Koizumi launched a campaign with athletes like Shelly-Ann Fraser-Pryce (three-time Olympic gold medalist sprinter), Masai Russell (2024 Olympic 100m hurdles gold medalist), and Arie Aoki (rising Japanese sprinter). Koizumi said he was inspired by athletes who are “redefining femininity, expressing themselves unapologetically through fashion, while also showing strength at the highest level.”
