New Balance has teamed up with New York-based Grand Collection to give the Numeric 770 a fresh, stylish twist. This new collaboration blends the look of a dress shoe with the functionality of a skate sneaker, creating a design that fits both the runway and the skate park.
The reimagined Numeric 770 arrives in premium black and white leather colorways, paired with a matching apparel capsule that includes refined sportswear pieces. This project shows how skatewear can evolve without losing its purpose.
According to Sebastian Palmer, General Manager of New Balance Numeric, the 770 model represents the spirit of experimentation from the 1980s. “In the ’80s, there wasn’t a skate-specific shoe, so we borrowed from basketball, tennis, and running styles,” he explained. The redesigned 770 maintains a flat sole, offering the grip and balance needed for skating while looking sleek enough for everyday wear.
Grand Collection’s founder, Ben Oleynik, describes the collaboration as a blend of fashion and function. “We’re both obsessed with shape, form, fabric, and true functionality. This shoe is the embodiment of all these things. It can live perfectly on the runway and actually be skated in,” he said.
The collaboration made its debut at Paris Fashion Week with a showroom, an off-calendar runway presentation, and a jazz-inspired skate film shot in New York City. The collection also includes apparel pieces like a velour tracksuit, a polar fleece wind shirt with matching bottoms, and a heavyweight cotton sweatsuit, each featuring embroidered branding and YKK zippered pockets for a premium finish.
The black-and-white skate film that accompanies the launch stars skaters Brian Reid and Spencer Hamilton, highlighting how the shoe performs in motion while keeping its refined aesthetic.
