Grand Seiko’s “Violet Dawn” Ice Forest Timepiece Captures Winter’s Beauty

Grand Seiko has introduced the SLGB005 “Violet Dawn”, a watch inspired by the quiet beauty of a frosty morning in Japan’s Kirigamine Highlands. This release is the third model in the Ice Forest series and marks the first time Grand Seiko’s new U.F.A. movement is paired with Ever-Brilliant Steel, known for its durability and shine.

The dial is the centerpiece of the watch, textured to resemble frozen crystals and finished in deep violet that gradually brightens at the center. This design perfectly complements the smooth, gliding motion of the silver seconds hand, symbolizing the calm passage of time.

Inside, the watch runs on the Spring Drive Caliber 9RB2, visible through its sapphire caseback. The frosted bridges resemble snowy branches, while the jewel bearings sparkle like stars. Thanks to its advanced quartz oscillator and thermo-compensation system, the movement stays extremely precise at ±20 seconds per year. A hidden regulation switch also allows fine adjustments, ensuring long-lasting accuracy.

The 37mm case, crafted in Ever-Brilliant Steel, features Grand Seiko’s signature Zaratsu polishing and brushed surfaces. Large grooved indices and sharp sword-shaped hands offer excellent readability against the violet backdrop. Its low-profile case and steel bracelet ensure a comfortable fit on the wrist.

This limited-edition watch is capped at 1,300 pieces worldwide and will be available starting November 2025 at Grand Seiko Boutiques and select retailers.
