McLaren has revealed a bold new look for its Project: Endurance Le Mans Hypercar during Monterey Car Week. The livery celebrates McLaren’s first Triple Crown win at the 1974 Indianapolis 500.
The design pays tribute to Johnny Rutherford’s Indy-winning McLaren M16. It features the brand’s famous McLaren Orange, highlighted by a dark blue stripe down the center that takes inspiration from the Texas state flag. On the roof, a lone white star honors Rutherford’s nickname, “Lone Star JR.” His race number 3 is also displayed, alongside McLaren’s iconic Speedy Kiwi and Speedmark logos.
Project: Endurance is McLaren’s return to the world of top-level endurance racing. Unlike typical race cars, this is a customer program where owners can buy a real Le Mans Hypercar and even take part in the full development journey. Buyers will train with professional drivers, enjoy pit crew and engineering support, and join a two-year track program at world-class circuits. It’s more than just owning a hypercar — it’s about experiencing the racing lifestyle firsthand.
The special livery will be on display throughout August at events in Monterey, Dallas, and Miami before the car makes its official racing debut in the 2027 FIA World Endurance Championship.
