Seiko and Datsun are teaming up to honor their shared heritage with three special Prospex Speedtimer watches. The collaboration takes inspiration from the late 1960s, a time when both brands were making history. In 1969, Seiko launched the Speedtimer, the first automatic chronograph with a vertical clutch and column wheel. Around the same time, Datsun introduced the legendary 240Z sports car. Their bond grew stronger in 1971 when a Seiko-branded Datsun 240Z won the East African Safari Rally, showcasing precision and performance — values carried into these new timepieces.
The collection includes three models: SPB517, SRQ057, and SSC957. Each watch features design elements drawn from the Datsun 240Z, such as its iconic red-and-black color scheme and vintage instrument-style fonts.
-
SPB517: Features a Datsun logo with a red circle and blue rectangle, powered by the Caliber 6R55 movement.
-
SRQ057: A mechanical chronograph with Caliber 8R48, including cursive Datsun lettering and a rally-car emblem on the case back.
-
SSC957: A solar-powered model with V192 movement, block-style Datsun text, and a custom illustration of the 240Z.
Each piece comes on leather straps sourced from environmentally responsible tanneries. Built for function, the SPB517 includes a countdown timer, the SRQ057 offers a tachymeter bezel calibrated up to 600 km/h and precise chronograph mechanics, while the SSC957 delivers a 60-minute chronograph with a 24-hour subdial and up to six months of power reserve when fully charged.
All three are limited editions: 2,500 units of the SPB517, 500 of the SRQ057, and 4,000 of the SSC957. They will be available starting September 2025 through Seiko boutiques and select retailers.
