ASICS is paying tribute to the legendary Formula 1 driver Ayrton Senna with a special edition of the GEL-Kayano 14 sneakers. These shoes, inspired by Senna's iconic race cars, will launch in Brazil on December 9th and worldwide on December 10th.
A Tribute to a Motorsport Legend
Ayrton Senna, one of the most celebrated drivers in Formula 1 history, tragically passed away 30 years ago at the San Marino Grand Prix. Known for his incredible skill and relentless spirit, Senna earned 41 race wins and three world championships during his 10-year career. Beyond his achievements on the track, he was deeply committed to helping underprivileged children in Brazil. After his passing, his family established the Instituto Ayrton Senna to continue his charitable work.
Sneakers Inspired by Racing History
ASICS worked with @sennabrasil to design two colorways of the GEL-Kayano 14, drawing inspiration from Senna's most iconic race cars:
- Lotus Colorway: This version features the black and gold John Player Special livery, a nod to Senna's early days with Team Lotus.
- McLaren Colorway: Styled in red, white, and black, this look pays tribute to Senna's dominant years with McLaren, reminiscent of Marlboro branding.
Both designs include thoughtful details:
- Green and yellow tags on the shoes honor Senna’s Brazilian helmet colors.
- The Lotus version bears the phrase “Seek Your Truth” on the heel, while the McLaren features Japanese text for Ayrton Senna.
Release Details
