Tom Sachs and Nike are officially bringing back the NikeCraft Mars Yard sneaker, this time in its 3.0 version. The long-awaited release is scheduled for September 13, marking the next chapter in one of Nike’s most unique collaborations.
The new Mars Yard 3.0 keeps its familiar earthy tones, with a mix of off-white, golden brown, sport red, sail, and black. However, it introduces several design updates. Some of the standout changes include a black TPU toecap, silkscreen-printed Swooshes, and a new TPU heel clip with “Sail” detailing. The outsole uses natural rubber, while the midsole has been re-engineered with polyurethane React foam, a carbon fiber plate, and new texturing for better performance.
Other adjustments include a longer front pull tab that doubles as a lace keeper, oversized eyelets, ribbed laces, and an open mesh polyester upper. Inside, the shoe comes with both a cork sockliner and a mesh option, each featuring Sachs’ handwritten scientific sketches for a personal touch.
Access to the Mars Yard 3.0 is tied to the new I.S.R.U. app (In-Situ Resource Utilization). Fans can complete weekly challenges on the app to earn points and climb the leaderboard. Those with high scores will get early access to buy the shoes. Sachs commented, “Mars Yards have always been hard to get, and they’re always going to be hard to get. If you want them, you’re going to have to work for them.”
The NikeCraft Mars Yard 3.0 will be priced at $275 USD and available via Tom Sachs’ website, Nike SNKRS, and select retailers.
