Porsche Reveals Updated 911 GT3 R for 2026 Racing Season

Porsche has introduced a new and improved version of its 911 GT3 R for the 2026 race season, aiming to give teams better performance, reliability, and comfort in endurance racing. The car builds on the success of its predecessor, which has taken part in over 500 races and scored 420 podium finishes worldwide.

While the engine and base design stay the same, Porsche focused on refining aerodynamics, suspension, and cooling systems. New front wheel-arch louvres help reduce pitch changes during braking, and updated suspension geometry improves how the car handles loads. A Gurney flap added to the rear wing boosts aerodynamic stability.

For durability and long races, the GT3 R now features better cooling for the power steering and drive shafts, ceramic wheel bearings, and a more comfortable cockpit. The interior also gets a better air vent and a swappable USB data logger to make long-distance racing easier.

Teams with the current 992-generation GT3 R can upgrade to the new version with a kit starting at €41,500 EUR ($48,000 USD). The 2026 model’s first test at the 12H Spa-Francorchamps ended with a strong second-place finish, showing its competitive edge. Porsche has also made several former optional packages, like sensor and camera kits, standard for this new model.
