Nike is introducing the International Running Pack, a collection that blends classic running heritage with today’s advanced running technology. The pack includes four updated models — the Vaporfly 4, Alphafly 3, Pegasus 41, and Vomero 18 — each carrying design details inspired by Nike’s historic racing shoes from the 1970s.
The first launch will happen in Tokyo at the UNION RUNNING DEPT. BY NIKE on August 30, ahead of the city’s big track and field championships. This debut highlights Nike’s long-standing connection with Japan and its running culture.
Designer Katsunobu Asayama explained that Nike wanted to give Japanese runners a mix of old and new. By pulling designs from the archives and applying them to modern models, Nike delivers the vintage style that runners love while keeping all the benefits of cutting-edge performance.
Each shoe in the collection draws inspiration from a different classic:
-
Vaporfly 4: Inspired by the Pre Montreal racing spike linked to Steve Prefontaine before the 1976 Olympics.
-
Alphafly 3: Takes cues from the Sting, Nike’s first suede and nylon racing flat.
-
Pegasus 41: Echoes the iconic Waffle Runner.
-
Vomero 18: Pays tribute to the LD-1000, another early running favorite.
The shoes feature bold half-tone graphics, a nostalgic color palette, and a unique direct printing process for details like the Swoosh. Alongside the footwear, Nike will also release a matching apparel collection carrying the same retro-meets-modern theme.
