GM China has revealed something truly special — a new electric concept car called the Buick Electra Orbit. It’s a vehicle that mixes old-school charm from the 1950s with future-forward electric technology. Imagine a car that looks like it came from a sci-fi movie, with smooth curves, spaceship-like lights, and even scissor-style doors that open upward — that’s the Electra Orbit.
Designed by the GM China Advanced Design Center, this concept car brings back the feel of the jet age — a time when cars and planes were sleek, bold, and full of imagination. The Electra Orbit is huge — nearly 6 meters long and over 2 meters wide — making it more like a spaceship than a car. It also comes with special features like 24-inch wheels, aerodynamic tail design, and even a front trunk that opens in two directions to reveal stylish custom luggage.
Inside, it gets even more exciting. The cabin is set up for four people (2+2 layout) and feels like the inside of a luxury spacecraft. A large digital screen stretches across the dashboard, showing everything from maps to car controls. Depending on whether you're driving or relaxing in autonomous mode, the steering wheel and dashboard change their look and function. There’s even an AI assistant shaped like a glowing orb in the center — think of it as your personal space guide.
The colors and materials are just as imaginative: red clay-inspired tones, shiny crystal accents, and a carpet that looks like a digital illusion. All of this comes together to make the car feel both luxurious and otherworldly.
Painted in a color called “Space”, the Electra Orbit is meant to reflect the mystery and beauty of the universe. While it won’t be available for sale — it’s only a concept for now — it shows how Buick might build electric cars in the future by blending history with innovation.
