Nissan's Electrified R32 Skyline GT-R "Godzilla" Debuts at Tokyo Auto Salon

 

Nissan is bringing a groundbreaking twist to its legendary R32 Skyline GT-R by unveiling an electrified version at the 2025 Tokyo Auto Salon. The event, held from January 10 to 12 at Makuhari Messe in Tokyo, will showcase this innovative project that’s been in development for over 18 months.

The original R32 Skyline GT-R, famously nicknamed “Godzilla,” was a game-changer when it debuted between 1989 and 1994. Powered by a 2.6L twin-turbo inline-six engine with 276 horsepower, it featured a cutting-edge all-wheel-drive system that could adjust power distribution as needed. This made the car a motorsport icon and a favorite among enthusiasts.

The new “R32EV” keeps the spirit of the classic alive but swaps its gas engine for an electric drivetrain. While Nissan hasn’t shared details about the EV’s power or performance, the conversion aligns with the growing trend of retrofitting vintage cars with electric technology. This approach merges nostalgia with eco-friendly innovation, offering a glimpse into the future of classic car restoration.

Visitors to the Tokyo Auto Salon will get an up-close look at the electrified Godzilla, which promises to be one of the show’s highlights. Alongside the R32EV, Nissan will also showcase its latest automotive advancements, making this a must-see event for car enthusiasts.
