A Closer Look at the Unreleased fragment design x Air Jordan 3 Sample

It’s been nearly five years since Hiroshi Fujiwara’s fragment design collaborated with Jordan Brand on the Air Jordan 3, and sneaker enthusiasts are still buzzing about the unique samples created during that time. While only one colorway made it to retail in 2020, a new look at an unreleased black-and-white sample has surfaced, flipping the original design’s colors.

The 2020 release featured a white leather upper with a black mudguard, fragment design’s thunderbolt logo, and a transparent heel tab. This new sample takes the opposite approach, with:

  • A black leather upper replacing the original white.
  • A white mudguard swapped in for a clean contrast.
  • The Nike Air branding on a traditional black heel tab, instead of the transparent, layered design from the 2020 release.

The sleek, inverted look adds a fresh twist to the original concept, but unfortunately, this sample is unlikely to ever hit shelves. Over the years, Fujiwara has teased other unreleased fragment x Air Jordan 3 samples, including a blue, white, and black version and an all-gray iteration.

While this black-and-white design remains a collector’s dream, fans can look forward to more fragment design x Jordan collaborations, especially with the Air Jordan 1’s 40th anniversary celebration on the horizon. Stay tuned for what’s next from this iconic partnership!
