Seiko Revives the Iconic Astronaut Watch With the New “Rotocall” Model

Seiko has brought back one of its most famous space-inspired watches from the 1980s — the A829 Astronaut watch — with a fresh and modern twist called the “Rotocall.” This revival keeps the classic spirit alive while introducing upgrades for today’s wearers.

Originally known as the A829-6029, the Astronaut model gained fame for being worn by NASA astronauts on over 160 space missions during the 1980s, even though it was never officially issued by NASA. Notable astronauts like Sally Ride (the first American woman in space), Kathryn Sullivan, and Anna Lee Fisher all wore Seiko’s reliable timepieces.

The new Seiko Rotocall continues this legacy with a design that focuses on simplicity, utility, and durability. Its standout feature is the rotating bezel, which lets you easily switch between eight different functions—time, daily alarm, single alarm, dual time, stopwatch, counter, timer, and time set—all by turning the bezel, without needing to press tiny buttons.

Inside, the watch runs on a quartz movement, which ensures accuracy and long-term performance. Quartz technology has been a Seiko specialty since 1969 when it first revolutionized the watch industry. The Rotocall features a 37mm stainless steel case, 10.6mm thickness, and 100m water resistance, making it both stylish and functional for daily use.

The model embraces a unisex design, keeping the vintage charm but with a modern build and display. It’s available in three color options and priced at £480 GBP (around $645 USD). Pre-orders are now open on Seiko UK’s online store, with deliveries starting November 1, 2025.
