Wales Bonner and adidas Originals are teaming up once again, this time to celebrate basketball legend Kareem Abdul-Jabbar. Known for creating one of the first signature sneakers in basketball history, Abdul-Jabbar’s adidas Jabbar has now been reimagined for Fall/Winter 2025 in a way that blends sports heritage with fashion-forward design.
The updated WB Jabbar features a suede upper with colorful, crocodile-embossed leather stripes — a detail that reflects Wales Bonner’s signature craftsmanship. Finishing touches include a gold foil sky hook logo on the tongue and Wales Bonner branding near the heel.
The capsule also comes with a retro-inspired apparel collection. Highlights include a yellow jersey with green accents, referencing Jabbar’s iconic “sky hook” move, as well as a white track jacket with striped cuffs and collar. The range is completed with striped socks in the colors of Abdul-Jabbar’s two professional teams: the Milwaukee Bucks and the Los Angeles Lakers.
The campaign, modeled by Jecardi Sykes and photographed by Oliver Hadlee Pearch, captures the spirit of Jabbar in the 1970s. A short launch film mixes archival clips with the player’s own words, emphasizing his legacy in both sports and culture.
This release also fits into adidas’ ongoing archival revival, following recent updates to classics like the Samba, Superstar, and Taekwondo. The Jabbar silhouette itself has been spotlighted in other collaborations this year, including partnerships with Willy Chavarria and Bruce Lee.
The Wales Bonner x adidas Originals Jabbar collection will be available starting September 8, 2025, through adidas’ website, the Confirmed app, and select global retailers.
