Drake Pushes for Kendrick Lamar’s Private Records in UMG Lawsuit

Drake’s ongoing legal fight with Universal Music Group (UMG) over Kendrick Lamar’s diss track “Not Like Us” has taken a new turn. The rapper is now asking the court to force UMG and its CEO, Lucian Grainge, to share sensitive details about Lamar — including his music contract, financial records, and even information related to alleged crimes.

According to The Hollywood Reporter, Drake had already received a copy of Lamar’s contract but says it was so heavily redacted that it was “unreadable.” He is now requesting the full version, along with details about Interscope Records’ finances and the value of Lamar’s music catalog from the past five and a half years.

Drake claims these documents are important for his argument that UMG backed the negative statements made against him in “Not Like Us” to boost profits. He also accuses Grainge of encouraging rivalry between record labels to promote the song.

Both artists are signed under UMG, but through different labels — Lamar with Interscope Records and Drake with Republic Records. The case continues as the court decides whether Drake will get access to the requested information.
