BYD’s Yangwang U9 Track Edition May Hit Over 3,000 HP

BYD is working on a new track-focused version of its Yangwang U9 supercar, and it could be one of the most powerful electric cars ever made. The standard U9 already delivers an impressive 1,287 horsepower, but this new version could push that number to over 3,000 horsepower.

According to details from China’s Ministry of Industry and Information Technology, the car will have four electric motors — one for each wheel — with each motor producing around 744 horsepower. Together, that adds up to 3,019 horsepower.

The track edition will also come with wider 325/35/20 tires on all four wheels, a squared-off stance, and aerodynamic upgrades to improve handling at high speeds. It will weigh about 2,630 kg (5,798 lbs).

While the overall design looks similar to the standard U9, the changes are all about performance on the track. BYD hasn’t yet confirmed if this extreme version will be sold to the public, but if it is, it could set a new record for electric car performance.
