Tom Sachs and Nike are back together with the much-awaited NikeCraft Mars Yard 3.0, officially launching this September. This new version sticks to the familiar look of the earlier Mars Yard sneakers, featuring a mix of natural tones, sport red, and golden brown—giving it that space-inspired feel that fans love.
But this time, getting the sneakers won’t be as simple as clicking “buy.” Sachs and Nike introduced a new app called I.S.R.U. (In-Situ Resource Utilization). It’s a challenge-based app where sneaker fans can complete weekly tasks to earn points. The more points you earn, the higher you climb the leaderboard. Only the top scorers will get a chance to buy the Mars Yard 3.0 on September 5 through Tom Sachs’ official website.
Sachs shared, “Mars Yards have always been hard to get, and they’re always going to be hard to get. If you want them, you’re going to have to work for them.” He emphasized that the goal isn’t just about getting the shoes, but also creating better habits and daily routines.
Design-wise, the Mars Yard 3.0 keeps its signature look but adds some upgrades. There’s a new black TPU toecap, silkscreen-printed Swooshes, a cork and mesh sockliner with Sachs’ handwritten notes, and a polyurethane React foam midsole with a carbon fiber plate for added support. Other small changes include ribbed laces, a more breathable mesh upper, and an extended pull tab that now helps keep the laces in place.
This sneaker release is not just about style—it’s an experience that mixes design, technology, and participation. Get ready to put in some effort if you want to grab a pair.
