Sony Restores PlayStation Network After Major Weekend Outage

Sony’s PlayStation Network (PSN) faced a major outage over the weekend, lasting from Friday to Saturday evening. This unexpected downtime, which went on for more than 24 hours, is one of the longest unplanned service interruptions Sony has had in recent years.

During the outage, users couldn’t access important features like account management, social functions, and even the PlayStation Store, causing frustration among millions of players worldwide.

Although the network is now fully restored, Sony hasn’t shared details about what caused the issue. A spokesperson from Sony Interactive Entertainment confirmed that services are back online but didn’t provide much information beyond that.

To make up for the inconvenience, Sony announced that all PlayStation Plus members will get an automatic 5-day extension on their subscriptions, without needing to take any action.

The lack of clear communication from Sony during the downtime reminded many players of the infamous 2011 PSN outage, which lasted 23 days due to a massive security breach that affected 77 million accounts. However, Sony has not indicated that this recent outage was related to any security issues.

The outage also disrupted online gaming events, including tournaments for popular games like Destiny 2 and Call of Duty, leaving developers to adjust schedules for affected players.

For those looking to stay updated on PSN’s status in the future, it’s best to check Sony’s official network status page for real-time updates.
