An unreleased Slam Dunk x Air Jordan 23 collaboration has recently come to light, offering fans a glimpse of what could have been. Shared on Instagram by @solesupreme, this sample dates back to 2008-2009 and was designed as a regional concept. Unfortunately, it never made it to production.
Unlike previous collaborations inspired by characters and teams from the iconic basketball manga Slam Dunk, this design takes a unique and artistic approach. The shoe features a textured black upper with vibrant multicolored embroidery on the sides and toes. The embroidery includes Kanji characters spelling out the name of Takehiko Inoue, the manga’s creator. The toe area adds a special touch with Michael Jordan’s signature stitched into the design.
A glossy turquoise midsole brings bold contrast to the otherwise dark silhouette, while the insole artwork depicts a basketball player in action, viewed from a low angle.
Though this concept never hit the shelves, it showcases the creative potential of blending sports and art. Fans of Slam Dunk and Air Jordan can only imagine what might have been had this collaboration seen the light of day.
