Hiroshi Fujiwara, founder of fragment design, has shared a glimpse of an unreleased sneaker collaboration with Nike during an interview for QUIET #7. The design combines elements of the iconic Air Force 1 Low and Air Presto, creating a unique silhouette that blends classic and modern styles.
The sample showcases a deconstructed look, with leather overlays layered over a neoprene base inspired by the Air Presto. Unlike traditional Air Force 1s, the neoprene base extends slightly higher, adding a fresh twist to the low-top design. One standout feature is the loose leather heel overlay, which isn’t stitched to the base, giving the shoe a more breathable and unconventional appearance.
Other details include reflective hiking-style rope laces, a heat-applied midfoot Swoosh, and a two-tone midsole. Fujiwara revealed three colorways of the sample: a sleek all-black version, a bold black-and-white design, and a navy-and-white option.
In the interview, Fujiwara reflected on the creative process, noting, “This first sample was comfortable and well-made. With more trial and error, I think it could evolve into something even better.”
While this intriguing design won’t be hitting retail shelves, fans of fragment design and Nike can admire the innovation behind the sample. Recently, fragment design also collaborated with Nike on two versions of the Air Zoom Spiridon, continuing their 20+ years of partnership.
